Great places are shaped by more than buildings and infrastructure—they emerge from the relationships between landscape, ecology, culture and community. As cities continue to evolve in response to climate change, biodiversity loss and rapid urbanisation, there is an increasing need to create places that regenerate natural systems while strengthening cultural identity and human connection.
IDC004 brings together an internationally recognised panel of landscape architects, architects and design leaders whose work demonstrates how landscapes can become catalysts for environmental restoration, social wellbeing and meaningful placemaking. Drawing on projects from Australia, Portugal, Brazil and Southeast Asia, the conversation explores how regenerative thinking is transforming the way we design parks, public spaces, urban precincts and living landscapes.
The discussion will examine how biodiversity, climate resilience and ecosystem health can be integrated with local culture, heritage and community aspirations to create places that are both environmentally responsive and deeply rooted in their context. From large-scale ecological restoration and urban greening to biophilic interiors and climate-responsive architecture, the panel will highlight design approaches that reconnect people with nature while celebrating the unique identity of place.
Featuring perspectives from leading international practices—including TOPIARIS Landscape Architecture, Studio Arcadia, Troppo Architects, ASPECT Studios and Studio Chintamani—along with a special guest to be announced, IDC004 offers a multidisciplinary conversation on the future of regenerative placemaking.
As part of the International Design Conversations Knowledge Archive, this live event continues the exploration of how design can respond to the defining challenges of the twenty-first century, creating healthier landscapes, stronger communities and more resilient cities through collaboration, creativity and a deeper understanding of the relationship between people and nature.
